Police arraign two for impersonating naval officers in Ibadan

Two persons, Lekan Abiola and Timileyin Olaniyan, were arraigned in the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday for allegedly impersonating naval officers.
Messrs Abiola, 28 and Olaniyan, 28, of no fixed addresses, were charged with conspiracy and unlawful parading of military officers.
The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 21, at about noon, at the World Best Hotel in the Muslim area of Ibadan.
Mr Igori said the defendants wore military camouflage trousers and possessed the Nigerian Navy’s ID cards.
He said the defendants were also in possession of AK 47 live ammunition, electric pistol, and knives, among other dangerous weapons, with the intent to commit a felony.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 109 and 430 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The magistrate, Olaolu Olanipekun, granted the defendants N200,000 bail each with one surety each in like sum.
He adjourned the case until December 4 for a hearing.
