The police on Tuesday arraigned three men before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly stealing property worth N3.1 million.

The defendants, Igwe Emmanuel, Joel Istipanus and Sylvester James, who reside in Lokogoma and Gwarinpa, in the Federal Capital Territory respectively, are facing charges of joint act and theft.

The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that one Dr Perpetual Uhomobihi of Gwarinpa Abuja, reported the matter at the Gwarinpa Police Station on April 28.

Ms Nwachukwu alleged that Emmanuel and James conspired with Istipanus, the complainant’s security guard, and dishonestly made away with her property valued N3.1 million.

She said the defendants made away with the complainant’s plasma television, stabiliser, ipad, two laptops, four laptop bags, two back bags, 17 bottles of wine, printer machine, pressing iron, jewellery, perfumes among others.

Mr Nwachukwu said that during police investigation the defendants made a confessional statement and some of the stolen items were recovered from them.

The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrates, Musa Jobbo, admitted the defendants to bail in sum of N500,000 each and with one surety each in like sum.

He, thereafter, adjourned the matter until June 16 for hearing.
