Police arraign masquerader for beating Enugu nurse

The Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad of the Nsukka Sector of the Enugu State Police Command, on Wednesday, arraigned a masquerader at a Nsukka Magistrates Court, for allegedly assaulting a nurse.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Mr Ndukwe said the police operatives on May 12, 2024, around 3.45 p.m., intercepted and arrested a masquerader (popularly called Oriokpa) while sighted physically assaulting a female victim (names withheld) at Ugwuoye Junction, Nsukka.
He said, “The masquerader was later identified as one Ugwuoke Ebube “m”, aged 22, of Enugu Road, Nsukka.”
The police spokesperson said, “An investigation into the case suggests that the suspect was part of a group of masqueraders that similarly assaulted a female nurse riding a motorcycle, as captured in a viral video in April 2024. He was today, May 22, 2024, arraigned in the Nsukka Magistrates Court of Enugu State, Nigeria, but was granted bail by the court.’’
He said the state Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, while condemning the act, warned those intending to hide under culturally celebrating masqueraders to commit such criminal acts of assault against fellow citizens, to desist forthwith.
The commissioner therefore warned that the command would henceforth not hesitate to bring anyone found wanting to book.
