On Friday, the police arraigned a 34-year-old man, Yusuf Azeez, before a chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly stealing a power steering box.

The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

The police prosecutor, Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 18 at about 7:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.

He said the defendant stole the power steering box, valued at N200,000, belonging to one Lateef Kamoru.

Mr Bamikole said the offence contravened section 302(1) (a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Stephen Ademuagun, urged the court to grant him bail, promising he would not jump bail.

The chief magistrate, Saka Afunso, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case until August 29 for a hearing.
