Police arraign man for stealing cow

The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 26-year-old man, Samuel Ibiwoye, before the Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a cow worth N700,000.
Mr Ibiwoye, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and causing a breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 20 at 2:00 a.m. in the Agbovipe area of Badagry.
He alleged that the defendant stole a cow from the ranch of a complainant, one James Nudamajo.
Mr Ekpo also alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to breach public peace by entering into the ranch of the complainant without his consent.
He said the defendant was arrested by security guards and handed over to the police.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The chief magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that one of the sureties must be a community leader.
He adjourned the case until December 10 for mention.
Section 287 provides for a penalty of three years’ imprisonment if found guilty of stealing.
