Police arraign man, 22, over alleged shop breaking, theft

The police on Thursday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Francis Abidoun, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and stealing.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Osuolale Yomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on January 9 at about 6 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He said that the defendant broke into the shop belonging to one Oluwasina Oluwadunsin and stole his three generator engines and generator parts, valued at N1.8 million.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 324(1) and (2) and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Alabi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Olubunmi Bamidele, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until February 2 for hearing. (NAN)
