Police arraign driver, 29, over alleged reckless driving

The police on Thursday brought one 29-year-old Kayode Elijah, before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly driving recklessly.
Elijah, who resides at Amolokun Street, Ibadan, Oyo State, was charged with reckless driving, causing damage and driving without a licence.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to charges preferred against him by the police.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Donjour Perezi, told the court that Elijah committed the offences on the Lagos Ibadan Expressway, Ketu, at about 8.00 p.m.
Mr Perezi said the defendant allegedly drove his Fiat truck vehicle with registration number LSR 852 XW dangerously and in a reckless manner.
Mr Perezi told the court, “He reversed and hit one Toyota Camry car with registration number EKY 888 HP, as a result of the accident, the vehicle which is in the care of one Mr Odunuga Adesina of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos was badly damaged. He attempted to escape the scene but rammed into one Nissan pickup; a police patrol vehicle. The defendant drove recklessly, without a driver’s licence.’’
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 7(1) and 18 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos, 2012.
The Magistrate, S.K Matepo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until February 17 for hearing.
