Police arraign defendant over alleged contempt

The police in Oyo State on Tuesday charged a 57-year-old man, Olusola Joseph, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, over an alleged contempt of court.
Joseph, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on charges of contempt.
He, however, he pleaded not guilty to the charge
The prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Tellang, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 28, at about 4.00 p.m, at Apete area of Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant being a defendant in a pending land case before the court violated the court’s order.
Mr Tellang, alleged that the defendant had previously been warned, not to go to the land in dispute but he intentionally disobeyed the directives of the court.
He alleged that the defendant disobeyed the court’s directives, by raising structures on the disputed land.
He said that the offence contravenes the provisions of section 133(9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Moyosore Atanda, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until May 20 for hearing.
