Players’ Fatigue: Super Spikers club chairman seeks extended duration of volleyball tournament

Chairman of Super Spikers Volleyball Club, Chukwuka Oliobi, on Saturday advocated a longer tournament duration to reduce player fatigue at the ongoing Minister of FCT Volleyball Challenge 2025 in Abuja.
Mr Oliobi stated this during an interview on Saturday at the ongoing Minister of FCT Volleyball Challenge 2025 in Abuja.
According to him, with multiple matches played daily, all team and the players are experiencing exhaustion, which might impact their performance.
He stated, “I believe extending the tournament will provide more rest time, allowing players to perform optimally. This proposal aims to prioritise player welfare and enhance the overall competition quality.”
He urged the organisers to improve on future events, by considering player welfare, such as providing refreshments and potentially extending the competition duration.
The chairman said that his team featured in the 2024 edition where both male and female team finished in quarter finals.
He stated, “After six matches, Super Spikers Volleyball Club boasts an impressive record, with five clean sheets in the group stages and a 3-1 victory over Legends Spikers in the semifinals, which is the only set where they conceded. We have now made it to the final stage and we will be playing on Sunday. But this year I came with the men team alone. I urge my players to remain motivated and focused, trusting that God’s plan is unfolding. I am confident we will emerge victorious in tomorrow’s final.”
Mr Oliobi expressed gratitude to God for the team’s success in the tournament.
“I want to express my gratitude to Minister Nyesom Wike and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for hosting this fantastic event,” he said.
According to the team captain, Kyrian Ezedigwe, the match was challenging, but they still prevailed due to team spirit and collective effort.
He stated, “This semifinal was the toughest match we have played so far in the competition. Unlike our previous matches, which we won 3-0, today’s game was a 3-1 victory.”
Super Spikers Volleyball Club defeated Legend Spikers 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23) to advance to the final. They will face Karu United in the final match on Sunday at 4 pm.
