Plateau inaugurates committee to establish health council

The Plateau State Government has set up a committee to establish a State Council on Health to boost qualitative healthcare delivery.
The state Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Baamlong, inaugurated the 20-member committee on Wednesday in Jos.
Mr Baamlong said that the committee’s responsibility was to develop and implement strategic plans to improve the health and well-being of citizens.
The commissioner, represented by the Director of Medical Services, Stephen Bishmang, said that the challenges facing the health sector were complex and multifaceted.
He said that a collaborative and inclusive approach to problem-solving was required.
According to him, the committee’s terms of reference are to define the theme and objectives of the council, identify participants, set up subcommittees, develop an agenda and send out invitations.
The commissioner, who is also the chairman of the committee, urged members to work proactively to develop innovative solutions to health challenges.
He added that the health plans would align with the needs and priorities of the various communities.
Members of the committee include Chief Medical Director of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Pokop Bupwatda.
Others include the Medical Director of Plateau State Specialist Hospital (PSSH), Christopher Yilgwan, and the Medical Director of Bingham University Teaching Hospital (BHUTH), Stephen Anzaku, among other members of the committee.
