Petrol-laden tanker falls in Osun, spills content on expressway

A petroleum tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, fell Monday along Fajuyi road, close to Ilesa motor park in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The petrol tanker, said to belong to a popular fuel station, was going to Moore Area to offload its content when it suddenly fell down.
A visit to accident scene showed that the driver did not sustain any injury.
It was however discovered that the fallen tanker spilled its content all over and the place was cordoned off by security operatives.
An eyewitness, Ibrahim Salam, said that the tanker fell while the driver was attempting to cross to a road leading to Moore Area where the filling station is located.
He stated, “We thank God that no life or property was lost.’’
The Principal Fire Superintendent 2, Adeyinmi Adeleye, also the Zonal Commander Ife Zonal Fire Station, said that fire-fighters came to prevent people from extracting petrol from the tanker to prevent a fire incident.
Mr Adeleye added that there was nothing they could do to save the situation than to disallow people from getting petrol from the tanker, saying that they went there to assess the situation.
According to him, it may be that the tanker driver was speeding in the area because the road is sloppy and has dangerous bends.
He advised tanker and heavy truck drivers to be cautious of the area when passing.
The principal fire superintendent also admonished people in the area to be vigilant and leave the place quickly because the flame could envelope the area and cause casualty.
The Chairman, Ife Central Local Government, Rotimi Adeyenuwo, said petrol spilled from the tanker made the area impassable to road users.
