Peter Obi reacts to devastating earthquake in Morocco

Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of about 2,500 people in a devastating earthquake in Morocco.
Mr Obi took to his verified X page to express his shock and share his condolence message to the victims’ families.
“I am shocked by the sad news of the high-magnitude earthquake, which hit Morocco recently and which, according to reports, has a death toll of over 2000 people. My heart goes out to the government and the great people of Morocco,” Mr Obi said.
“The socio-economic contributions of Morocco to Africa are immeasurable,” Mr Obi added, as he recalled his visit to the country last year.
The North African country of Morocco was struck by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake 72 kilometres southwest of tourist hotspot Marrakesh last Friday. The quake also affected the coastal cities of Rabat, Casablanca, and Essaouira.
The earthquake was the strongest in Moroccan history in more than 100 years.
Peoples Gazette earlier reported that the death toll in the earthquake has now approached 2,500.
