Peter Obi, football stakeholders hail Super Falcons over 10th WAFCON title

Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, and football stakeholders have congratulated the Super Falcons on their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, ahead of the host nation, Morocco.
The Nigerian women’s national football team on Saturday defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to extend their continental dominance.
In his congratulatory message posted on his X handle on Sunday, Obi, a former governor of Anambra, said they were not the first to get it done but the best to ever do it.
“I watched as our girls never gave up, just as I said before the game, it was an exemplary display of the indomitable Naija spirit.
“This is more than a win; you have shown true dominance in African football. From every Nigerian heart across the world, we say thank you for making us proud.
“Today, history bows to their greatness. Congratulations, super falcons, mission done and dusted,” Obi said.
Similarly, football stakeholders in Ekiti commended the Super Falcons and expressed happiness for the resilience and determination of Nigeria’s women’s team.
The chairman of Ekiti Football Association, Oluwole Oloworemo, commended the coach and the team for winning the African Cup for a 10th time.
Oloworemo said the tactical display with counter-attacks and transition adopted when the Falcons lost 2-0 to the host country, Morocco, was instrumental to their victory.
“With this unique victory, it is a wake-up call to the Super Eagles. These ladies show us what football is all about; they fought till the very end of the competition without accepting defeat.
“I believe President Bola Tinubu and the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Guasu, will be very proud of them,” he said.
Also, the technical advisor to the Ekiti governor on sports development, Olusola Osetoba, described the victory of the Super Falcons as remarkable.
Osetoba said the Falcons displayed strength like the men and fought for the unity and progress of their country.
“I want to encourage the team to continue to build on their victories. Winning the 10th WAFCON Cup is a huge success. God bless them,” she said.
Similarly, the vice president of the Sport Writers Association of Nigeria(SWAN), South-West Zone, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, commended the Super Falcons for their victory.
“I think this is real teamwork that came to play from the part of the Falcons at the game as they were able to overcome a two-goal deficit, and it was obvious that they were not discouraged, or bow down to pressure, even at the 2-0 lead by the Moroccans,” he said.
Ogunsakin added that the team’s victory was a good development for Nigeria and also added to their dominance in African women’s football.
