Peter Obi commiserates with Abuja flood victims

Former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, has commiserated with Abuja flood victims, calling for humanitarian support for them.
A torrential downpour in Abuja on Friday left the popular Trademore Estate, on Airport Road, flooded, with 116 houses submerged, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Reacting in a tweet on Saturday, Mr Obi said, “the flooding incident at Trademore Estate in Lugbe, Abuja, which has resulted in the loss of lives and properties worth millions of naira is a major disaster and is very heartbreaking.”
He added, “my heart goes out in sympathy to all those who are affected by this unfortunate flooding incident. In the meantime, urgent humanitarian help should be provided to the residents in the areas of evacuation. Accommodation, relief materials and health care should be provided to enable them to carry on with their normal lives.”
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, who visited France on a two-day economic summit and later crossed to London on a “private visit” on Saturday, is yet to speak on the devastating flood in Abuja.
His spokesperson, Dele Alake, who hurriedly issued a statement from France denying Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) proposed salary increment for Mr Tinubu, other politicians and judicial staff, has remained silent on the incident.
