Peace commission appeals for peaceful election reruns in Kaduna

Kaduna State Peace Commission has appealed for calm and peaceful conduct of election reruns scheduled for Saturday.
The appeal was made in a statement signed by Saleh Momale, the commission’s executive vice-chairman, on Thursday.
Mr Momale emphasised the significance of citizens exercising their democratic rights during this electoral process.
He urged all stakeholders to embrace peaceful conduct of the polls and refrain from all forms of provocation and violence.
Mr Momale highlighted the need to uphold the highest transparency, integrity, and accountability standards throughout the election rerun.
The commission also appealed to political parties and their supporters to avoid incitement, hate speech, or any conduct that can jeopardise peace and security.
Reflecting on the success of the general elections held in February and March 2023, Mr Momale called on stakeholders to replicate the peaceful conduct witnessed during that period.
To maintain a secure environment, the commission further urged individuals, community leaders, and other stakeholders to report any threats to peace before, during and after the elections.
“People should report incidences to relevant authorities, including the Kaduna State Peace Commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and security formations, to ensure an appropriate response.
“As the nation awaits the rerun elections, the Kaduna State Peace Commission remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering harmony and tranquillity,” he said.
The commission, however, called on all citizens to contribute to the success of this democratic exercise.
The reruns will take place in selected constituencies and polling units across seven LGAs, including Chikun, Igabi, Kauru, Kaduna South, Kudan, Kachia, and Kagarko.
