Party chief hails Doherty’s emergence as APC UK chairman

A former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in the Scandinavian countries has described emergence of Tunde Doherty as Chairman of APC UK as the beginning of a new era for diaspora engagements.
The former National Chairman, Ayoola Lawal, made the statement in a congratulatory message to Mr Doherty on Tuesday.
He said that the election of Doherty remained significant, highlighting not only his personal journey but also the collective progress of the APC, especially within the diaspora community.
Mr Doherty was elected on Saturday to take over from Dr Phillip Idaewor, a 2023 presidential aspirant of the APC from the diaspora.
“This victory signifies the end of longstanding internal conflicts, paving the way for a united and progressive chapter. Doherty’s leadership is expected to foster collaboration and mutual respect among members, ensuring a cohesive representation of the party’s interests,” Mr Lawal said.
Mr Lawal, a former secretary of the committee of APC Diaspora chairmen, also congratulated the other newly-elected executives, emphasising that their success reflected public confidence in their abilities.
“The continued integration of diaspora chapters into the APC’s core framework, championed by the National Working Committee under Abdullahi Adamu, demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity and progress. The seamless coordination of the just-concluded APC UK congress by National Secretary, Dr Ajibola Bashir, further highlights the leadership’s dedication. This development emphasises the importance of leveraging the diverse talents and perspectives of members’ worldwide. Doherty’s ability to inspire and unite will be crucial in navigating future challenges and building on past successes,” he said.
Mr Lawal encouraged members of the APC UK chapter and the broader diaspora community to support their leaders.
According to Mr Lawal, collective efforts will ensure APC’s continued success in the diaspora.
He said, “As the chapter embarks on this new journey, optimism, determination and a shared vision for a brighter future for Nigeria and the APC will be essential. Congratulations to Doherty and the other newly-elected executives. Your leadership is expected to take the APC UK chapter to new heights.’’
