Oyo govt pays N325 million compensation to owners of property acquired for bus terminals

The Oyo State government has begun the payment of N325 million compensation to owners of properties acquired for constructing two bus terminals at the Iwo Road interchange, Ibadan.
The Commissioner for Public Works, Daud Sangodoyin, presented cheques to some property owners on Wednesday at the state secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan.
Mr Sangodoyin said 227 affected property owners without litigation on their properties would benefit from the gesture.
According to him, the state government is constructing two bus terminals at Iwo Road, which occupy some private properties.
“And, we are paying their compensation amounting to N325 million,” the commissioner said.
Mr Sangodoyin explained that due process was followed before arriving at the amounts to be paid to the respective owners.
He said the three ministries- Lands and Survey, Justice and Public Works- were in charge of the valuation of the properties.
“They have done valuation of the properties based on their respective professional experiences,” Mr Sangodoyin said.
He said that Governor Seyi Makinde had rebuilt a mosque demolished as a result of the bus terminals construction and that the governor had paid N50 million to the owner of the affected church building.
Two beneficiaries, Jimoh Amodu and Abiola Adekoya appreciated the state government for fulfilling its promise on the issue of compensation.
