Oyo Assembly screens, confirms nine additional commissioner-nominees

Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday screened and confirmed nine additional commissioner-nominees.
Governor Seyi Makinde had forwarded a list of commissioner-nominees for screening and confirmation by the assembly.
The confirmed commissioners were: Wasiu Olatubosun, Abiodun Akinkonmo, Segun Olayiwola, Abdulwaheed Soliu, Majeed Mogbojunbola, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Williams Akinfunmilayo, Obafemi Ojo and Dotun Oyelade.
The commissioner-nominees took turns to address the lawmakers on their political antecedents, educational background and plans of action for the state.
Two lawmakers, Bamidele Adeola and Gabriel Babajide, urged the commissioner-nominees to prioritise the state’s interest.
The speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, after the screening, asked each of the commissioner-nominees to take a bow and go.
In another development, the assembly frowned at the resurgence of kidnapping in the Kajola Local Government Area of the state.
The resurgent kidnapping arose under a matter of urgent public importance brought by one of the lawmakers, Musbau Azeez.
The assembly called on the police and other security agencies to urgently secure the release of the medical director of Baptist Medical Centre, Okeho, David Lawal and another hospital staffer, simply identified as Kafilat, who were kidnapped on July 23.
Mr Azeez said people living in the Oke Ogun zone of the state were living in perpetual fear.
He also said farmers were afraid of going to farm, with others becoming apprehensive about their daily business activities because of fear of being killed, maimed or kidnapped.
The house also urged the executive arm of government, through the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, to put necessary machinery in place to address the situation.
Such measures, they said, should include the installation of CCTV cameras, security lights and other gadgets in strategic locations across the state to expose the criminal elements in the state.
