Oyo APC appoints Olayide-Abas as acting chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, on Monday, announced Moshood Olayide-Abas as its acting chairman to fill the vacuum created by the late Isaac Omodewu’s demise.
Mr Olayide-Abas, until his announcement as the acting chairman, was the deputy state chairman of the party.
The new acting chairman and late Mr Omodewu, alongside other members of the APC state executive committee (SEC), were elected during the party’s last state congress held in October 2021.
Oyo state APC, in a statement issued by its publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare, said the announcement of Mr Olayide-Abas as the acting chairman followed his ratification by the state executive committee.
It added that the members made the ratification at an emergency meeting on Monday in Ibadan.
“Following the transition of our former state chairman, the Constitution of our great party has placed on us the onus to fill the vacuum by elevating the Deputy State chairman to the post of acting chairman and this is exactly what the SEC has done.
“The new acting chairman belongs to the category of leaders of the Progressives with an intimidating track record of service as a professional and a politician.
“Olayide-Abas, a certified pharmacist, started his active political career with the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 70s and he was a direct trainee under the late Uncle Bola Ige.
“In 1991, he emerged as executive chairman of the old Ifeloju Local Government Area (LGA), which was later split into Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North LGAs.
“He was also appointed the chairman, Oyo State Hospital Management Board during the first term of the late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi.
“In addition, he held various party positions at the state level between 2004 and 2009 under the defunct Action Congress (AC) and later Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),” the party added.
