Osun residents protest arrest of five suspects by Amotekun

Some residents of the Atakumosa East Local Government Area in Osun on Wednesday embarked on a protest against the alleged unlawful arrest of five suspects by the Amotekun Corps in the state.
The residents from the Itaapa community, who gathered at the Amotekun Corps headquarters in Osogbo, condemned the continued detention of the suspects.
The protest led to serious gridlock on the road where the office of the corps is located, before normalcy was restored.
Reacting to the development, Amotekun’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, said a gang of five suspected criminals was arrested in the Itaapa community in Atakumosa after credible information was received.
Mr Idowu said the suspects were apprehended on May 29 at about 8:45 p.m. in Atakumosa in possession of some dangerous weapons and charms.
He said the suspects had been unleashing terror on residents of the town before the Amotekun corps arrested them.
“Some exhibits were recovered from them, including a pump-action gun and charms,” Mr Idowu said.
He said some victims of attacks by the gang had come forward to identify the suspects and make useful statements while investigations were ongoing.
”The five suspected criminals would appear in court soon to ensure justice is served,” Mr Idowu said.
Mr Idowu urged the public to support the Amotekun Corps with credible and reliable information on criminal hideouts to make the state safer.
