Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, has described Saturday’s local government elections in Osun as a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Mr Oyintiloye, a member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council, stated this on Tuesday in Osogbo.

He noted that since the Court of Appeal, Akure, in its judgment, reinstated the sacked APC local government chairpersons and councillors, the conduct of another election was “illegal and an exercise in futility.”

The APC chieftain also mentioned that the Osun government would be asked to account for the money wasted on the election at the appropriate time.

He, however, appealed to the federal government to release the monthly local government allocation to the reinstated chairpersons.

Mr Oyintiloye explained that the allocation would allow the chairpersons to fast-track development at the grassroots, which he claimed had been neglected since their purported sack in 2022.

He said since the chairpersons had lost considerable time, with less than nine months left to end their tenure, the timely release of the allocation would enable them to embark on developmental projects at the grassroots.

Mr Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, also commended the inspector general of police, Kayode Egbetokun, for displaying a high level of professionalism in handling security issues and abuse of power in the state.

According to him, since 2022, when the chairpersons were sacked, there has been no tangible development at the grassroots in the state.

“I want to appeal to the federal government to start releasing the monthly allocation to the APC reinstated council chairmen in the state starting this month,” he said.

Mr Oyintiloye commended the council chairpersons for returning to their various local governments despite intimidation and harassment by the Peoples Democratic Party.

He urged the local government staff to resume at their various offices, promising them security cover.

The APC chieftain said the staff resumption would allow the chairpersons to settle down to deliver the dividends of democracy that the people at the grassroots had been yearning for.
