Osimhen breaks Serie A scoring record as Napoli pip Atalanta to maintain unbeaten record

Two Super Eagles players were on the scoresheet as Victor Osimhen’s Napoli defeated Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta 2-1 on Saturday evening to extend their lead on top of the Italian Serie A table.
Both players have been important members of their teams since the beginning of the season as Napoli and Atalanta sit first and second on the league standings respectively.
Lookman put Atalanta in the lead from the spotkick in the 19th minute when fellow national team compatriot Osimhen’s hand struck the ball from a hosts’ corner kick. The 25-year-old gave goalkeeper Alex Meret no chance.
Barely four minutes later, Osimhen jumped high and nodded a wonderful header into the back of the net to equalise for Napoli before he assisted Elif Elmas to seal a first half victory for the visitors.
There was no moment of high significance in the second half of the encounter as it ended goalless, with Azzurri picking up the maximum three points to end their lead on the table to eight points.
Napoli are yet to lose in any of their 13 league matches this season.
The goal is Osimhen’s eight goals in nine league matches, taking him to top of the Serie A scoring chart, while Lookman’s goal is his seventh in the league.
Osimhen has now become the highest scoring Nigerian player in Serie A history with 32 goals so far, surpassing the 31 goals scored by Simeon Nwankwo.
