Oscars: Will smith slaps Chris Rock over Jada Pinkett joke

Will, who went on to win and receive his first-ever Oscar award, later apologised to the audience and the Oscar committee.

Oscar Nominee Will Smith at the Oscars punched and cursed at comedian Chris Rock over an ill-timed joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett.

Chris, who cracked a joke at the 94th Oscar Awards that held March 27, 2022, calling Jada Pinkett-Smith, G.I Jane due to her shaved head, saying, “Jada, I love you. Gl Fane 2, can’t wait to see you,” was shocked when Will stood up, walked up to him on the stage and punched him.

The comedian was shocked and tried to defend himself, saying, “Ow, Will Smith just smacked the sh*t out of me…. Wow, dude, it was a G.I. Jane joke.”

To which Smith responded, saying, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*cking mouth.”

Jada announced last year that she was currently battling alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that often results in unpredictable hair loss when the immune system attacks hair follicles and may be brought on by severe stress.

Will, who went on to win and receive his first-ever Oscar award, later apologised to the audience and the Oscar committee hoped he would be invited again to the award show.

Rock has a history of making quips at the expense of Jada.

In 2016, when he presented the ceremony that had been boycotted due to its lack of diversity, Chris said, “Jada (Pinkett Smith) boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”
