A charity organisation, ITECH Vocational Charity, has trained 80 students under its free vocational tech courses in Ilesa, Osun State.

The centre manager of ITECH office in Ilesa, Mosaku Moyogbore, during the graduation of the students, said that 38 of them were trained in junior geeks, tech foundation and computer repairs.

Mr Moyogbore said the remaining 42 students were trained in computer fundamentals.

He said that the graduating students were drawn from three schools in community; St. Lawrence’s Grammar School, Ilesa; Iloko Model College, Oloko; and AFOPET College.

The manager said that teachers from the selected schools were first trained by the centre, which in turn, trained the students.

He added that 10 students were also onboarded to undergo six months training in tech and solar professional courses.

According to him, ITECH centre is poised towards reaching out and empowering people at the grassroots, for them to be able to stand on their own and cater for themselves.

“In order to empower people, you must be able to provide them with skills and it is this skill that we are here to give to those at the grassroots”, he said.

In his remarks, the President of the organisation, Adewale Ladesuyi, said that the centre had been training people in tech development for the past two and half years.

Mr Ladesuyi said the centre had produced three sets of students since inception.

He said that the training received by the students would allow them to be self independent in the near future.

Also, a chief lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr Lawrence Ige, spoke on the topic “Youth empowerment and challenges of setting up a new enterprise.”

Mr Ige urged the graduating students to establish themselves in line with the skills they had acquired.

He also urged them to embrace mentorship and build fruitful relationships.

He said, “To build a nation, you have to train a child. The essence of the training is to allow these children to stand on their own. Today, jobs are no longer available and the Federal Government cannot provide jobs for everyone. If these students are not trained, they go into crime. That is why this non-governmental organisation, ITECH Vocational Charity, has been training young Nigerians from rural communities in Osun. Don’t be afraid of starting small, when you start small, you will grow big. You need to build relationships with your competitors in business and seek knowledge.’’
