OPEC decries rising attacks on global energy infrastructure

The OPEC Joint Ministerial Monitoring Committee has expressed concern over rising attacks on energy infrastructure, saying that restoring capacity would require time and resources.
The committee restated the need to safeguard international maritime routes to ensure uninterrupted energy supplies.
“It also expressed concern over attacks on energy infrastructure, noting that restoring damaged energy facilities to full capacity is costly and time-consuming, affecting the overall availability of energy supplies,” an OPEC statement said on Sunday.
OPEC said the committee reviewed current market conditions and restated the essential role of the Declaration of Cooperation in supporting the stability of global energy markets.
“Accordingly, the committee stressed that any actions undermining energy supply security, whether through attacks on infrastructure or disruption of international maritime routes, increase market volatility and weaken the collective efforts under the DoC to support market stability for the benefit of producers, consumers, and the global economy,” it explained.
According to OPEC, the JMMC reviewed crude oil production data for July and August 2026 and noted overall conformity among OPEC and non-OPEC countries participating in the Declaration of Cooperation.
It noted that the committee would continue to monitor adherence to the production adjustments decided upon at the 38th OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting held on December 5, 2024.
“The JMMC will continue to monitor market conditions closely and retains the authority to convene additional meetings or request an OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting, as established at the 38th ONOMM held on 5 December 2024,” the statement noted.
The statement from OPEC came amid escalating attacks on global energy infrastructure, driven by conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.
