Ondo govt promises to pay N70,000 new minimum wage promptly

The Ondo government has assured its civil servants that they will receive the new minimum wage of N70,000 without delays.

The Ondo government has assured its civil servants that they will receive the new minimum wage of N70,000 without delays.

Bayo Philip, the head of service, disclosed this to journalists in Akure on Tuesday.

Mr Philip stated that implementing the new minimum wage, as approved by President Bola Tinubu, is crucial considering the current economic situation in the country.

He explained that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had promised that his administration would pay the new wage and not offer anything less than what had been approved.

“Before the bill was signed by the president, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa had given his word that Ondo state will pay whatever minimum wage is agreed upon.

“As I speak, we are in the process of preparing everything so that as soon as the details of the salary table for the minimum wage are out, we will review it and, in line with his promise, implement it without delay,” the head of the service said.

He mentioned that the state had always led by example by being the first to pay and implement the initial N35,000 wage award for its workers in the past government.

He also noted that the government extended the increment to retirees and workers in state-owned tertiary institutions to alleviate the current economic hardship.

While reaffirming Mr Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to the welfare of the Ondo workforce, Mr Philip said the current administration will always prioritise the interests of workers.

He also urged the workers to enhance their services at their workplace by ensuring that government jobs are carried out dutifully.
