Okpebholo’s threat on Obi’s safety in Edo is threat to all of us: Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned a statement credited to the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, that the safety of a former Anambra State governor and Labour Party chieftain, Peter LP, is not guaranteed should he visit Edo State without his permission.
The former vice president stated that in a post on X on Tuesday that a threat against Mr Obi was a threat to all.
“Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against all of us!,” Mr Abubakar said in his post.
Mr Okpebholo’s statement attracted criticisms with a rights activist and senior lawyer, Femi Falana, urging Mr Obi to sue the governor if he refuses to withdraw the statement and apologise.
Also, a civil society group, Leadership & Accountability Initiative, petitioned the U.S. and UK Embassy to impose a visa ban on Mr Okpebholo and his family members over the statement.
Citing how Mr Obi arrested a former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in 2013, Mr Okpebholo maintained that his statement was informed by the rising insecurity in Edo State.
He stated that the state government would not fold its arms and allow politically motivated activities to jeopardise the safety of Edo people.
