Ogun man arraigned for stealing jewellery

On Monday, a 27-year-old man, Olatilewa Ahmed, appeared before the Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for breaking into a shop and stealing jewellery and other valuable items worth N1.3 million.
Mr Ahmed faces a four-count charge of stealing, burglary, conspiracy and malicious damage.
The prosecutor, E O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offences on May 9, 2024, at about 3:00 a.m. at Dada Asala Road, Ota.
Mr Adaraloye alleged that the defendant and his accomplices conspired to break into the shop of his victim, Oyewole Omotayo, and stole three pieces of jewellery, two door lights and other valuable goods worth N1.3 million.
He said the defendant also damaged the roofing sheets and ceiling of the shop, valued at N15,000, in the process of trying to break into the shop.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate, O.O Fadairo, granted the defendant bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun government.
She adjourned the case until May 14 for further hearing.
