Nigeria’s Favour Ofili has made history setting a new world record in the women’s 150 meters at the 2025 Adidas Atlanta City Game, on Saturday.

The 22-year- old from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, rewrote the record book with an amazing 15.85 seconds, becoming the first woman to run a 150-metre race under 16 seconds.

The previous record was held by Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas, a two-time Olympic champion, who finished with a time of 16.23 seconds in 2018.

After her astonishing victory, Ms Ofili posted a video of the race that enabled her to shatter the world record on her official X page commenting thus, “For the Lord is Good.”

Ms Ofili made her Olympic debut for women’s 200m after finishing sixth in the Paris Olympics 200m final, on August 4, 2024.

Meanwhile, other amazing Nigerian sprinters were not left behind, as world record holder and 100m hurdles winner, Tobi Amusan, secured a spot in the final after finishing second with a time of 12.53 seconds behind American Kemi Harrison.

Also, Udodi Onwuzurike, exhibited an amazing performance, finishing second in 100-metre, just behind South Africa’s Akani Simbine (10.13s), which earned him a spot in the finals.
