Officer shot as NSCDC repels kidnap attempt in Benue school

The Benue Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has repelled an attempt to kidnap students and staff of Fr. Angus Frazer Memorial High School, Adeke, Makurdi.
This is contained in a statement on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Michael Ejelikwu.
According to the statement, the command had earlier conducted a risk and vulnerability survey across the state and discovered that Fr. Angus Frazer Memorial High School was at high risk of kidnapping, hence the tacit deployment of men.
The statement read in part: “On May 7, 2024, at about 00:08 hrs, unidentified gunmen were spotted by our officers while gaining access to the school through the perimeter fence.
“The gunmen were shooting sporadically and indiscriminately with the intent of kidnapping the students and staff of the school, but for the gallantry and professionalism of men of the command who repelled the attack.
“One of our officers (name withheld ) was shot in the process and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, but none of the learners and staff was hurt.”
The statement said the state commandant, Yakubu Ibrahim, had assured the general public that the NSCDC would continue to provide a safe learning environment for schools across the state.
It said this was done through the National Safe School Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC).
It urged members of the public to also volunteer actionable intelligence to security agencies in the state.
