Nursing mother drags husband to Shari’a court over alleged negligence, assault

A nursing mother, Rabi Yunusa, on Monday took her husband, Usman Sa’idu, to a Shari’a Court at Magajin Gari, Kaduna, over alleged lack of feeding, assault and constant insults in their marriage.
She alleged that the defendant does not provide food for the family and always embarrasses, insults, and beats her at the slightest opportunity. “For months now, he has not paid the children’s school fees. I have been the one doing all the struggle. I pray the court to dissolve our marriage,” she said.
The defendant, however, denied all the allegations.
“I always provide food for my family. I have never laid a finger on her, nor have I ever treated her badly, and our children are also going to school,” he said.
Mr Sa’idu claimed that Ms Yunusa’s relatives were poisoning her mind because they disliked him, adding that she was currently living with her cousin.
He added that no matter how well he treated the complainant, she lied, spoiled his reputation and asked for divorce.
The judge, Mu’awiyah Shehu, adjourned the case to November 17 for the complainant to present her witnesses.
