NUJ, Ajayi Crowther University partner on practical media training for mass communication students

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, on Friday partnered with the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, to provide practical media training for Mass Communication students.
The NUJ Chairman in Oyo State, Akeem Abas, said the collaboration aimed to strengthen students’ professional capacity and expose them to journalism beyond classroom learning.
Mr Abas said that 300-level and final-year students would gain exposure to real-time newsroom operations and field reporting practices.
“The initiative will provide participants first-hand knowledge of modern journalism practice and improve their professional readiness,” MrAbas said.
He added that the mentorship programme would involve NUJ leadership in Oyo and Ogun councils and scheduled to commence in May 2026.
Presenting the proposal to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebunoluwa Oduwole, in her office, Mr Abas said the partnership would enhance the competence and performance of the university’s graduates.
He commended the management of Ajayi Crowther University for sustaining a productive relationship with the union over the years.
Mr Abas also praised the institution’s achievements, noting its growing reputation within 21 years of establishment.
Responding, Ms Oduwole reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing highly marketable graduates.
She said the partnership would bridge the gap between theoretical teaching and practical training for Mass Communication students.
Ms Oduwole added that the university deliberately designed its academic programmes to align with modern labour market realities.
Those present at the event included Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Popoola, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Olufemi Atoyebi, and executives of NUJ Oyo State Council.
