The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara command, has arrested a suspected human trafficker and rescued two teenage girls in Gusau.

This is contained in a statement issued to journalists in Gusau on Friday by the command’s public relations officer, Umar Mohammad.

The PRO quoted the state commandant, Sani Mustapha, as saying that the suspect, Bala Abubakar, 25, from Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara, was apprehended in the Lalan area of Gusau on October 15 at about 8:30 p.m.

He said the suspect was arrested with two victims of human trafficking, identified as Amira Baje Ibrahim, 13, and Haulatu Shaibu, 13, both indigenes of Zurmi LGA.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were being trafficked from Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara and were to be delivered to one Hadiza and Bara’atu (Yar Baba) in Suleja, Niger State.

Mr Mustapha said the arrest was made in line with the corps’ statutory mandate and in collaboration with sister security agencies under the leadership of the Commandant-General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

The commandant directed the immediate transfer of the case to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further necessary action.

The NSCDC reiterated its zero tolerance for criminality and unethical vices, warning that any suspect apprehended would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted before a competent court of law.
