The Zamfara command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has detained four suspects for prosecution over their alleged involvement in the illegal trade of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The command’s public relations officer, Umar Mohammed, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday in Gusau.

Mr Mohammed said the suspects were arrested in Birnin Magaji and Tsafe Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state.

He said two of the suspects were arrested in Birnin Magaji LGA while allegedly conveying 1,292 litres of PMS amounting to N1.4 million.

While the other two suspects were intercepted at Tsigama community as they were allegedly conveying 275 litres of PMS amounting to N324,000.

He alleged that the suspects lacked an operating licence or clearance permit from the state ministry for security and home affairs to transport such a large quantity of petroleum products.

He further claimed that the suspects were en route to Tafkin Kazai and Tsigama, two security-compromised communities in Tsafe and Birnin Magaji LGAs of Zamfara.

According to him, NSCDC maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of criminality, in line with the federal government’s directive.

Mr Mohammed said that the suspects would be charged in court upon the completion of investigation.
