The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo has assured of maximum security of national assets should strike hold on August 1.

The command spokesman, Efosa Ogbebor, told journalists on Sunday in Benin that the state commandant, Gbenga Agun, had deployed officers and men to that effect.

The NSCDC image maker disclosed that the command had deployed 2100 personnel to ensure the protest was peaceful and orderly in the state.

He said the NSCDC boss instructed them to mount robust security around national assets, such as government facilities, infrastructure, and public utilities.

Mr Ogbebor, however, noted that Mr Agun warned individuals who might intend to hijack the protest to cause violence, destruction, or chaos to desist, adding that such people would face the full wrath of the law.

He said the corps would not tolerate any form of criminality or disruption of public peace.

Mr Ogbebor advised law-abiding citizens to go about their legitimate businesses without fear, saying, “the corps is committed to maintaining peace and security in the state.”
