NSCDC arrests three suspected vandals in Jigawa

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Jigawa command, has apprehended three suspects for alleged transformer vandalism.
The command’s public relations officer (PRO), ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, told journalists in Dutse on Tuesday that the suspects were arrested in Kiyako village of Brinin Kudu Local Government Area of the state.
He said the suspects, aged between 21 and 28, were arrested on Friday after they allegedly stole armoured cable from a transformer in neighbouring Babaldu village.
“The suspects were seen committing the offence by one of the residents of the community, who immediately reported to our men operating in the area.
“And upon receipt of the information, our men rushed to the scene and successfully apprehended the suspects.
“When interrogated, one of the suspects, who claimed to be scrap dealers alleged to have bought the vandalised cable valued at N385,000 at the cost of N40,000 from the other two suspects,” he said.
The PRO added that the NSCDC commandant in the state, Muhammad Danjuma, expressed displeasure over the incident and warned criminal elements that anybody found wanting would face the full wrath of the law.
According to him, the commandant has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident, after which the suspects would be charged to court.
