NSCDC arrests 10 suspected illegal miners in Plateau

The Plateau command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 10 suspected illegal miners.
The corps commandant, Ishaku Musa, disclosed this at a news conference on Tuesday in Jos, the state capital.
He said the arrest was in line with the subsisting order issued by the government, suspending all mining activities in the state.
The commandant explained that the suspects were arrested in the Bukuru community of the Jos South Local Government Area.
“In spite of the state government’s suspension of mining activities, these suspects continued with the illegal act.
“Their arrest followed a tip-off from officers in our intelligence department.
“We will charge them to court once investigations are concluded,” he said.
Musa explained that items recovered from the suspects included four motorcycles, three generators, five shovels, and one water hose, among others,” Mr Musa said.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang recently issued an executive order suspending all mining activities in the state.
The governor cited security challenges and other concerns as the rationale for the suspension.
