NPC engages stakeholders to mobilise participation in census

On Wednesday in Gombe, the National Population Commission (NPC) engaged stakeholders to mobilise participation at the grassroots in the upcoming national population and housing census.
The NPC federal commissioner in the state, Abubakar Danburam, who spoke at the inauguration of the exercise, said it was designed to sensitise stakeholders on the processes and methodology of the census.
He said that the successful conduct of the census depends on the people’s acceptability, hence the series of engagements to create awareness and mobilise participation at the grassroots.
The commissioner said the stakeholders were being engaged to help the commission to create awareness in their communities for the people to understand the importance of the exercise.
“To this end, the commission will be relying on your (stakeholders) experience and structures to drive the message into every home and household for a successful population and housing census.
“Grassroots participation is key to the successful census. I, therefore, implore you to contribute immensely to ensure everybody is counted,” he said.
Earlier, Jude Maigari, NPC coordinator in the state, said the commission had conducted workshops for journalists and other stakeholders to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exercise.
