Arsenal have completed the signing of 23-year-old Noni Madueke from Chelsea on a long-term contract until June 2030, in a deal worth £52 million.

The agreement involves an initial fee of £48.5 million, plus £3.5 million in add-ons, to secure the winger on a five-year contract at the Emirates.

The winger’s move marks Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer window, following the arrivals of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, and Christian Norgaard.

Madueke began his professional career at Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur before joining Dutch side PSV Eindhoven in 2018. There, he made 80 appearances, scored 20 goals, and provided 14 assists.

After creating an impressive impression with his direct attacking style, he emerged as one of Europe’s promising young talents.

In January 2023, he transferred to Chelsea, where he scored 20 goals in 92 appearances for the Blues. He played a key role in strengthening Chelsea’s attacking options before moving to Arsenal.

On the international stage, he has also represented England at various youth levels and has earned seven caps for the senior team, known as the Three Lions.

He is the seventh player to transition from Chelsea to Arsenal in the past six years, following Kepa, Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz, Jorginho, Willian, and David Luiz.

Bidding farewell to Chelsea, Madueke thanked the staff, teammates, and fans for their support over the past three years despite criticism, saying, “I leave with only love and admiration.” He called it “a privilege” to play under Enzo Maresca.

Madueke announced his ambition after joining Arsenal, saying he is determined “to win all the competitions we’re in… I feel like we’re definitely capable of doing that.”

He added, “I’ve spoken to Declan Rice, Myles, Bukayo Saka, even Jurrien as well… and they all say amazing things about the club and the culture here, how warm it is and how much of a family it is.”

He begins a new journey with the Gunners with the No.20 kit number, which was worn by Alex Iwobi, Mathieu Flamini, Thierry Henry, and Shkodran Mustafi.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta spoke on the signing of the talented winger, saying, “At just 23, Noni brings here experience of club and international football. Having seen the quality of Noni’s performances up close, we are all really excited.”

The signing of the young forward sparked a wide range of mixed reactions, especially regarding the Gunners’ continued interest in buying players from their neighbours, rather than exploring alternative options, given the hefty fees often paid for such players without guaranteed results.

Examples like David Luiz, Willian, and Raheem Sterling, whose spells were far from beneficial to the Gunners, have only added to the growing concerns among fans.
