NOA partners EFCC to tackle cybercrime in Nigeria

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) says it has designed a programme to sensitise Nigerians to the dangers of cybercrime and the promotion of a culture of financial integrity.
Paul Odenyi, NOA’s spokesperson, made the remark in a statement in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, on Friday.
He said the agency was set to launch a nationwide sensitisation campaign to help people make informed decisions about online scams and get-rich-quick schemes.
Mr Odenyi said the campaign would be carried out in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He said the director-general of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, had announced the agency’s plan to roll out a comprehensive digital awareness campaign across strategically selected states.
Mr Odenyi said the aim was to curb the rising cases of virtual asset and investment fraud in the country.
He said the states would be chosen based on key vulnerability indicators, such as prevalence of investment fraud, youth population density, and digital risk exposure.
He added that the campaign also planned for a youth-focused initiative.
“The programme is designed to instil ethical entrepreneurship, foster financial responsibility, and empower young Nigerians to make informed decisions, particularly those susceptible to online scams and get-rich-quick schemes.
“The agency’s innovative AI-powered platform, CLHEEAN, has been instrumental in enabling citizens to report crime-related information anonymously.
“Reports submitted through the platform are directed to the appropriate security agencies for prompt action,” the director said.
Mr Odenyi reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to combating societal crimes in the country.
