Mr Zulum said the security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and the police, are giving their desired cooperation to the state to protect lives and property.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno says the security situation in the North-Eastern state has significantly improved.

Mr Zulum made the remarks to state house reporters on Friday, following a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja.

“To be sincere and candid, the security situation in Borno State has improved by more than 85 per cent. Economic activities are ongoing perfectly in Borno State,” the governor said.

Mr Zulum also assured that all 27 local government areas are secured, and none is under insurgents’ control.

“Honestly speaking, none of the 27 local government areas of Borno State are under the control of insurgents. However, we have few local government areas that we want to ensure that people are completely resettled,” the governor said.

Borno State, just like Yobe and Adamawa, all in the North-East, has suffered mostly from decade-long insurgency crises largely perpetrated by the extremist group Boko Haram and its breakaway ISIS-backed faction group, the Islamic Africa Province (ISWAP).

But Mr Zulum said the security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and the police, are giving their desired cooperation to the state to protect lives and property.

“The Nigerian army is giving us the desired cooperation, the police, the paramilitary as well as airforce and all other components of the Nigerian military are supporting us,” Mr Zulum stated.

He assured that Borno State is doing well in terms of security, insisting that there is serious improvement in the security situation.

“But most importantly, I want to assure you that as the chief security officer of Borno State, the state is doing well in terms of security. There’s a serious improvement in our security situation. And I commend the service chiefs for their efforts and I commend the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Now, people are partially resettled there, especially Abadam Local Government and then Guzamala local government. But by and large, in terms of the security situation in Borno state, I think the government is doing very well, the Nigerian military is also doing very well. And then nothing has happened, we keep on improving,” Mr Zulum added.
