Nnewi residents unaware of rerun election

Residents have defied Saturday’s movement restriction for Nnewi South/South Ikwusigo Federal Constituency rerun elections as they went about their normal businesses.
Most business premises were opened while business owners were conducting their businesses at about 10 a.m.
Some residents told journalists that they were not aware of the rerun election in the state.
A food vendor, Nkechi Emmanuel, said that most residents were not aware of the election or the restriction of movement by the authorities.
“I am not aware of any election and I have to open for business to earn money for the upkeep of my family.
“This is where I earn a living; if I leave this business for a day, it will suffer a setback, I don’t want my customers to be disappointed.
“If I go to queue for voting, I won’t be here, hunger will beat my family,” she said.
A fruit seller, Idris Abdul, said that no security agent had questioned him for carrying out his business, saying he was not aware of the movement’s restriction order by INEC.
Another trader, Margaret Obinna, said that there was no single sign of restriction of movement, saying that she was left with no choice but to carry out her legitimate business.
