NIPR, Nasarawa perform groundbreaking for public relations varsity

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and the Nasarawa Government have performed the groundbreaking of a University of Public Relations and Leadership (UPRL) in the state.
The university is to be sited at Gudi in the Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The groundbreaking is contained in a statement signed by NIPR’s director of public relations, Stanley Ogaden, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Mr Ogadigo quoted the NIPR president, Ike Neliaku, as having expressed optimism that the university would make Nigeria a new global centre for leadership and communication excellence.
“The project’s migration from idea to reality is a demonstration of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s commitment to raising a new generation of leaders.
“The governor is sending a message to Nigeria and the world that Nasarawa is at the centre of history. The construction of this kind of university shows that the governor is demonstrating responsible use of influence,” he said.
On his part, Mr Sule expressed appreciation to the Global Alliance and NIPR for approving Nasarawa as the site for the project.
“The project offers huge developmental value to the state in education, capacity building and employment opportunities.
“The Nasarawa government is committed to completing the project through the provision of necessary support.
“By November 2026, the matriculation of the first set of students will take place in the university,” Mr Sule said.
The groundbreaking indicated that the university would commence academic activities before Nigeria hosts the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) in 2026.
The UPRL initiative had a meeting with the Nasarawa government in January 2025, where the idea for the university was presented to the government.
This was followed by the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) in July 2025 and presently, the groundbreaking.
