The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) is intensifying its efforts towards modernisation and the adoption of innovative strategies to build a forward-looking agency to deliver enhanced and efficient services.

The chairman of NIPOST’s governing board, Isaac Kekemeke, said this on Monday during a meeting with the service’s management staff in Abuja.

Stakeholders at the meeting emphasised that leveraging technology and strategic partnerships would enable NIPOST to become a more competitive and relevant player in the postal and logistics industry.

Mr Kekemeke stressed the importance of moving away from outdated practices and said NIPOST must build a dynamic organisation capable of meeting both present and future societal demands.

“NIPOST has great potential and needs to be stimulated for growth, promote globalisation, and facilitate the rise of e-commerce in Nigeria.

“Through meaningful innovations, NIPOST can expand its operations and compete globally,” he stated.

He pointed out that while NIPOST’s widespread presence across the country offered a strategic edge over its competitors, embracing modernisation was crucial to fully leverage this advantage.

“The adoption of modern digital technologies and information systems is key to driving the positive change we envision.

“This transformation will reposition the industry to be more competitive, stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and attract investment opportunities,” he said.

Mr Kekemeke stressed the need to challenge the status quo to achieve sustainable long-term improvements.

Also speaking at the meeting, the postmaster general/CEO of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, emphasised technology’s vital role in streamlining operations and improving service delivery.

“NIPOST has been proactive in aligning its services with global best practices.

“Technology is helping us meet our operational targets and fulfil our mandate more efficiently,” she said.

She highlighted the critical role of postal services in every economy and their impact on daily lives.

Ms Odeyemi noted that NIPOST had invested heavily in digital tools to reduce parcel loss, mail item violations, and delays.

“We currently operate a reliable and trusted parcel tracking system, enabling customers to monitor the movement of their consignments from their homes or offices.

“Many transformative projects are driving our digital transformation, supporting financial inclusion, and advancing e-governance services,” she explained.

She added that NIPOST’s modernisation efforts also involved the introduction of financial services, the expansion of its delivery network, and collaboration with both local and international partners to strengthen its logistics capacity.
