Sheikh Taofeek Akewugbagold, chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Preachers, South-West Nigeria, has called on Nigerians, irrespective of their religious affiliations, to be more pious and live decently in 2024.

Mr Akewugbagold gave the advice in an interview in Ibadan on Wednesday.

The cleric said it was more rewarding and pleasant for people to have left behind all evil deeds in 2023, deciding to turn a new leaf in 2024.

He called on youths, particularly those in the habit of engaging in internet fraud, money rituals, and other forms of evil, to shun the acts so they may end well.

According to Mr Akewugbagold, living a morally upright life with a spice of hard work is the only path to success.

“Any shortcut to success in life will definitely have a backlash,” he said.

The Islamic cleric further called on all regions and ethnic groups in Nigeria to always tolerate one another and live in unity for peace, progress and development.

He advised Nigerian leaders to shun corruption and embezzlement of public funds, urging them to remember they would not take along a dime to their graves.
