Nigerians urged to promote culture to foster national cohesion

Danladi Jatau, the speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has urged Nigerians to protect, promote, and sustain their cultural heritage to foster national cohesion, peace, and tolerance among Nigerians.
The speaker said this on Sunday while hosting the committee for the 2027 Wakama Day celebration at his residence in Lafia.
Mr Jatau, who was delighted by the visit, assured the committee of his support for the success of the event slated for January 2, 2027, at Aloce (Akpata) in Nasarawa Eggon council area.
He restated the need for parents to teach their children their native languages.
“Let’s continue to speak our language with our children. We should continue to promote our culture. It is good for people to promote their culture. It is good for Wakama and other people to promote their culture.
“If you lose your culture, you have lost your identity. For your request, I have wholeheartedly accepted to be the Chief Fundraiser of the event, and I will support the programme to succeed,” he stated.
The speaker called on the people of the state to continue living in unity and peace, irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
The district head of Wakama, Adams Nangba, who led the delegation, commended Mr Jatau for his purposeful leadership. He said the speaker was making the people of Wakama, his constituents and the entire state proud through his exemplary leadership style.
“We are here to appeal to you to serve as the Chief Fundraiser of Wakama Day. The committee has proposed January 2, 2027, for the event at 11:00 a.m. at RCM School, Aloce (Akpata),” he said.
The district head informed the speaker that the committee’s mandate was to organise a befitting Wakama Day to promote unity and peace and revive Wakama culture.
The committee chairman, Arigu Auta, thanked the speaker for agreeing to serve as the event’s chief fundraiser.
