Amid a clampdown on illegal immigration, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has threatened that Nigerians and other foreigners working illegally in the country will be arrested, detained, and deported.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Mr Starmer gave a stern warning to illegal immigrants from Nigeria and other parts of the world, threatening they will be arrested, detained, and deported.

“My message is clear: Illegal entry means detention,” Mr Starmer said, warning immigrants against entering the UK.

The UK Prime Minister added, “Illegal work means arrest. Foreign national offenders will be deported.”

Mr Starmer’s warning against illegal migration and working in the UK comes a few days after over 100 illegal immigrants who crossed in small boats into the UK were  arrested and detained pending removal to France, under the UK’s new “one in, one out” scheme.

In May, barely three days after the Conservative Party’s leader, Kemi Badenoch, called for the adoption of the “deportation bill,” Mr Starmer announced the end of Britain’s open border policy, introducing stringent visa rules and a compulsory English test for all applicants, among other measures.

Prior to this announcement, the UK authorities ended recruitment of caregivers from Nigeria and other parts of the world, as it is subject to abuse and exploitation, blocking over 100 occupations from its immigration system.
