Nigerian judge on U.S. trip delivered judgment in absentia restraining Sanusi’s reinstatement as Emir of Kano: Gov Yusuf

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano has raised the alarm that the judge who granted a court injunction restraining the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as Emir of Kano did so from America.
Mr Yusuf disclosed this while speaking after issuing a reinstatement letter to Muhammadu Sanusi II at Africa House, Kano State Government House on Friday, condemning the judge’s abuse of office.
The governor, on Thursday, reinstated Mr Sanusi while merging all emirates Mr Ganduje balkanised into five, namely, Gaya, Bichi, Rano, Kano and Karaye, into one.
However, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman of the Kano Division of the Federal High Court, based on a motion filed by Aminu Babba Danagundi, granted an injunction blocking Mr Sanusi’s reinstatement.
“The person who issued the court order was in America, but he is ordering us to stop what we are doing. This issue of abuse I must present before the governor’s forum so that we can tackle it accordingly,” Mr Yusuf said.
He added, “We are agents of following due process; that’s why we did what we did openly before everybody. Those meant to maintain that rule of law must follow that also.”
Peoples Gazette could not immediately verify Mr Yusuf’s claim that the judge who granted an injunction barring Mr Sanusi’s reinstatement did so from abroad.
The reinstatement of Mr Sanusi, dethroned by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2020 on the accusation of insubordination and political interference, comes four years later.
