Nigerian Flamingos wallop Egypt in FIFA U-17 WWC qualifier

Nigeria’s under-17 women’s national football team on Sunday defeated their Egyptian counterparts 4-0 in their third round first leg match in the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Competition.
The match played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja saw the Flamingos in total control of the game.
Opeyemi Ajakaye opened the scoring in the 28th minute, for her fourth goal of the qualifiers, while Omowumi Bello doubled the tally in the 38th minute.
Bello headed home from a corner-kick by Tumininu Adesina.
Miracle Usani extended their lead with their third goal in the 54th minute, after slamming past goalkeeper Habbiba El Taher from just outside the penalty area.
Bello put the icing on the cake with the fourth goal in the 62nd minute when she showed immense composure to make it a brace for herself on the day.
She lifted the ball above an advancing El Taher, after she had been brilliantly set up by Taiwo Afolabi during a counter-attack.
The Flamingos who resoundingly eliminated the Democratic Republic of Congo 8-0 aggregate in the previous round will now visit the Egyptians in Cairo on April 30.
Winners on aggregate between Nigeria and Egypt are most likely to face Ethiopia in the fourth and final round of the qualifying series for a ticket to the finals in India.
Ethiopia had trounced South Africa 3-0 away from home on Saturday.
The 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in India from October 11 to October 30.
