Nigerian artisan jailed six months for stealing solar lamp posts

An Area Court in Jos on Friday sentenced an artisan, Danjuma Alei, to six months’ imprisonment for stealing two solar lamp posts worth N80,000.

An Area Court in Jos on Friday sentenced an artisan, Danjuma Alei, to six months’ imprisonment for stealing two solar lamp posts worth N80,000.

The judge, Shawomi Bokkos, sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty to theft.

The judge, however gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.

He also ordered the convict to pay compensation of N80,000.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Daniel Damulak, told the court that the case was reported at the  Anglo Jos Police Station, on January 21 by Davou Yakubu.

He said the complainant said Mr Alei trespassed on his property and stole two outdoor solar lamp posts.

The prosecutor further told the court that during the police investigation, Mr Alei confessed to the crime.
